Homewood daycare worker charged with chasing, shooting at parent after drop-off, police say
A Homewood daycare worker has been formally charged after police say a dispute between the woman and a parent ended in shots fired.
Tamara Sasha Hughes, 28, of Hoover is charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle, according to Homewood police.
Huges was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 10:37 a.m. Wednesday. Her bonds total $30,000.
The ordeal began Monday morning when a woman and her sister dropped a child off at ABC Daycare & Kindergarten on Columbiana Road.
Police Sgt. Mark Trippe said the women got into an argument with Hughes because they were late for drop-off.
The verbal altercation then turned physical, but others present broke it up.
The women, with the child in tow, got into their vehicle and left, Trippe said. Hughes got into her vehicle and followed them.
As they got to Carr Avenue near Green Springs Highway, only about a block away, witnesses told police the daycare employee fired multiple shots at the other vehicle.
The shots were fired shortly after 9:15 a.m.
Trippe described the incident as “chaotic.”
Detectives and crime scene technicians recovered a bullet from the victim’s tire.
Hughes was taken to police headquarters for questioning and held until formal warrants were issued.
