Holy Family Cristo Rey coach arrested for sex with student
An assistant basketball coach at Holy Family Cristo Rey High School in Birmingham has been arrested on charges involving sex with a student.
Aaron Washington, 22, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Wednesday afternoon and remains held without bond.
Washington is charged with first-degree sodomy, second-degree sodomy, school employee engaging in sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student, enticing a child for immoral purposes, transmitting obscene material to a child, child solicitation by computer/electronic solicitation of a child, and school employee having sexual contact with a student.
The student victim is a female under the age of 19.
The warrants against Washington were issued on Tuesday, and he was booked in the county lockup at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday.
The investigation by Birmingham police began earlier this year. Charging documents against Washington state the incidents happened Dec. 23, 2022.
Washington has been suspended from his school duties. Efforts to reach Holy Family officials for additional comment weren’t immediately successful.
