Hollis Wright Player of the Week for Week 7 had big night running the ball

The Week 7 Hollis Wright Player of the Week averaged a first down every time he touched the football in his team’s region win. For his efforts, he picked up 59 percent of the total votes in the AL.com poll.

Makhi Fowler, a senior running back at Wenonah, got 5,677 of the 9,691 votes in the survey after his 190 rushing yards on 19 carries in a 30-15 win at John Carroll. The Dragons improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in Class 5A, Region 5. Wenonah will host Carver (3-1, 3-0) in another region contest on Friday.

Clay-Chalkville quarterback Aaron Frye finished second in the poll with 1,184 votes – 12 percent. The 5-foot-11, 176-pound junior hit 14-of-22 passes for 198 yards and ran 14 times for 102 yards and all three of the Cougars’ touchdowns in a 21-14 Class 6A, Region 6 win over Mountain Brook. Second-ranked Clay-Chalkville, 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the region, hosts Huffman in another region test on Friday.

Vincent wide receiver/free safety Landon Archer was third in the voting with 6 percent of the total. The 5-10, 156-pound sophomore caught nine passes for 184 yards and a touchdown in a 35-21 loss to unbeaten No. 4 Tuscaloosa Academy. Archer also recorded a pass break-up for the Yellow Jackets. No. 9 Vincent (5-1, 2-1 in Class 2A, Region 5) will travel to Aliceville on Friday for another region contest.
