High surf advisory for Mobile and Baldwin counties from Monday to Wednesday
On Sunday at 3:02 a.m. a high surf advisory was issued by the National Weather Service valid from Monday 1 a.m. until Wednesday 10 a.m. for Mobile and Baldwin counties.
“Large breaking waves of 5 to 7 feet, potentially up to 9 feet expected in the surf zone,” comments the weather service. “If trends continue then a High Surf Warning may be needed on Tuesday.”
“Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” explains the weather service. “Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
