‘He’s touched the lives of so many’: Funeral set for firefighter killed in motorcycle crash

Funeral plans have been announced for a Jefferson County firefighter who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Blount County.

Justin Phillip King, 23, died Tuesday night when his Harley-Davidson left U.S. 31 near Church Street and struck a utility pole.

King was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead on the scene.

King, who lived in Blount County, joined Hoover Fire in September 2023. He was both a firefighter and an EMT.

He also held part-time positions with the Center Point Fire District and the Warrior Fire Department.

“With profound shock and deep sorrow, we must share the sudden and tragic news of the untimely passing of our friend, brother, and colleague,’’ Center Point fire officials posted on Facebook.

“Justin and his brother, Austin, were not just members of our firefighter family, they were born into it,’’ the post read. “Growing up around Center Point Fire, they followed in the footsteps of their father, Jonathan King (JK), who retired in 2015, and became an integral part of our community at an early age.”

“During this difficult time, we ask that you keep Justin’s family in your thoughts and prayers,’’ officials said. “Your support and comfort will be greatly appreciated.”

A GoFundMe has been started to help with King’s burial. He leaves behind his wife and their baby son.

“He’s touched the lives of so many and it’s our turn to give back to his precious family,’’ according to the fundraising site. “Justin was an amazing husband to his wife, Hope, and the best father to sweet baby Colt.”

Visitation for King will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church in Warrior. A 2 p.m. service will be held, followed by burial at County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Trafford.
