Here’s what Nick Saban dressed as for Halloween last year
Nick Saban and Halloween have remained synonymous to those of us you have long known the legendary Alabama football head coach’s birthday falls on the holiday, but we’ve never bothered to picture him in a costume — until now.
In his article “How former Alabama coach Nick Saban is settling into retirement,” ESPN’s Chris Low recently chronicled life after football for the Crimson Tide icon including family grocery runs, quality of life tenets and restaurants he may try now that he has some free time.
But one of Low’s biggest revelations of all: Even Nick Saban dresses up on Halloween.

He writes that Saban, 72, agreed to leave coaching while he and his wife Terry could still enjoy their lives together and with friends and family, including more trips to their home in Lake Burton, Georgia, where he has celebrated his birthday the last several years.
That big day just so happens to fall on Oct. 31, usually within a bye week during Saban’s coaching tenure when they would gather with friends not to talk football but to, in fact, dress in Halloween costumes. Even better, Low’s piece shared a few examples of what Saban has worn in recent years.
“Last October, Saban dressed up as explorer John Smith from ‘Pocahontas,’” Low writes. “Other costumes included Thurston Howell III and Lovey from the old television show ‘Gilligan’s Island.’”
We only wish we could see the photos. Last time we remember Saban in costume? When he wore a Luigi hat during an ESPN interview with Colin Cowherd, in 2014.
Even the sternest football coaches like to party, too. It reminds us of the time Randy Moss convinced his New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to show up to a Halloween party, which the coach did and in full pirate regalia, much to the delight of football fans everywhere.
