Here’s conversation Ainias Smith, Nick Saban had after WR’s ‘more personal’ comment
Ainias Smith sparked headlines leading up to Alabama’s 26-20 win over Texas A&M when he said the game against Tide coach Nick Saban is “more personal.”
On Saturday, after the game, Smith and Saban had a conversation on the field, which the Texas A&M receiver was asked about in the postgame press conference.
“It was nothing, for real,” Smith said. “He was just talking, asking how my brother was doing. Telling me that I had a great punt return and whatnot. That was about it.
“I tried to catch him. I felt like he was trying to run away from me. I had to tell him, like, ‘Don’t run.’ But it was — it’s all love.”

Leading up to the game, Smith said the game against Alabama was personal. Smith’s brother, Maurice Smith, played for the Crimson Tide, before a public battle when Saban tried to block a transfer to Georgia.
“I know what Nick Saban wants, and we’re gonna mess that up,” Smith said.
Jalen Milroe passed for a career-high 321 yards and Jermaine Burton caught two touchdown passes as No. 11 Alabama beat Texas A&M to take control of the SEC West. Burton had nine catches for 197 yards for the Crimson Tide. Milroe, the Texas native, completed 21 of 33 passes and was sacked six times.
“I feel like this game is always more personal, every time I play them,” Smith said leading up to the game. “I don’t know, it’s just what had happened, that’s in the past now, not able to control it, but every time I do look on that sideline I do think about, what had happened. I definitely (am) thinking about it, so I mean, it’s more personal for sure.”
