Hereâs what the highest-paid employees in Mobile earn every year
James Barber, city of Mobile chief of staff, is the highest-paid city employee. He has an annual salary of $182,129.13, according to city of Mobile records.
The majority of the city’s highest paid employees are members of Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s administration, records show. But surprisingly, Stimpson himself does not make the list. The mayor’s salary is $125,000 annually, as set by the Mobile City Council.
Mobile’s executive director of public works, James DeLapp, is the second-highest-paid city employee, with an annual salary of $169,711.23. Director of the Mobile Museum of Art, Jonathan Carfagno, is third highest, with an annual salary of $165,000. Carfagno began his tenure in February.
Police Chief Paul Prine and Fire Chief Jeremy Lami both earn $139,163.21 annually. Mobile City Clerk Lisa Lambert earns $153,753.60.
But these salaries could change soon. In next year’s budget, Stimpson proposed a 5% cost-of-living raise for all city employees. If it’s approved by the council, that cost-of-living raise will not apply to Stimpson, only city employees, Jason Johnson, a spokesperson for the city, says.
