Here’s Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy calling out Washington Post reporter on ‘hit piece’

More than 30 million people have viewed a video of Dave Portnoy cold-calling a Washington Post reporter after he caught wind she contacted sponsors for his upcoming event for a “hit piece.”

The Barstool CEO recorded a phone call – which reporter Emily Heil approved of – where he called her out for “sending an e-mail that says, to the effect, ‘Dave’s a misogynic racist. Do you want to defend yourselves advertising at this event?’”

“I’m sorry. Who are you?” Heil, the food writer, asked before saying, “I have not said anything like that.”

Portnoy then read an email, which he posted to Barstool Sports, to a sponsor of the inaugural One Bite Pizza Festival.

“We are planning to write about the festival and how some of the sponsors and participants have drawn criticism by seeming to associate themselves with Dave Portnoy, who has a history of misogynistic comments and other problematic behavior,” Portnoy reads to her.

He posted the full conversation on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Portnoy alleged “tortious interference.” Heil claimed the email was the most pointed of many emails she sent, and her wording was simply an effort to get a response from the sponsor.

“Anybody who’s listening to this, to think that you were going to give me a fair chance when you’re leading to our sponsors before you talk to me is crazy,” Portnoy said. …

“The Washington Post, which is a wildly left-leaning publication, you have things you’ve said. You hate Trump. You hate Elon. Not that I’m those people. To think you’re gonna give me a fair shake. I wasn’t born yesterday.”

The more than 11-minute conversation ended with the agreement to talk again at 10 a.m. the next morning. However, Portnoy said the Post canceled the appointment.

According to the New York Post, Portnoy has faced accusations from several women of sexual misconduct and rough sex that turned humiliating, but he denied the claims. Three other women told Business Insider that Portnoy filmed their sexual encounters without permission. He sued the publication this year but eventually dropped his lawsuit.
