The city of Huntsville and the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber market the Rocket City as a smart place with high paying jobs.

And there is something to the claim. According to the Alabama Department of Labor, workers earn more money in Huntsville than in any other metro in the state — an average of $70,876 per year.

Many of the highest paying jobs require a college degree. But there are some good paying jobs that do not.

Stacker used Bureau of Labor Statistics data to find the highest-paying jobs in Huntsville that don’t require higher education. Professions that listed a high school diploma, some college education (without a degree conferred), postsecondary nondegree award, or no formal education requirements for entry-level positions were considered. Jobs are ranked by their annual median salaries.

The top 10 jobs pay more than the average salary in Huntsville. Real estate brokers, corrections officers, aircraft mechanics, law enforcement investigators and airline pilots are among them.
