Here are some of the major transportation projects in Baldwin County

As development continues in Baldwin County, infrastructure continues to be an issue to residents of the area. Here are some of the major transportation projects that the Eastern Shore Metropolitan Planning Organization tracks and where they stand, according to MPO Coordinator Sarah Hart Sislak.

Interstate 10 Bayway/Mobile River Bridge replacement

The Eastern Shore MPO is involved in the Interstate 10 Bayway/Mobile River Bridge replacement project. Both the Eastern Shore MPO and the Mobile Metropolitan Planning Organization had to sign off on the project in July. Construction is expected to begin in 2024.

Sislak says that the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is coordinating with the U.S. Department of Transportation on receiving a Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan for the project and finalizing a report on the tolls. The new infrastructure will have a one-way toll of $5.50 for non-ALGO pass holders and $2.50 for those with an ALGO pass.
