Here are some Alabama Sports Hall of Fame members you might not know … but you should
This weekend the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame will induct another star-studded class. The ASHOF is among the best halls of fame in the country and includes household names like Paul “Bear” Bryant and Bo Jackson. But there are also some incredibly accomplished individuals whose athletic feats are not as well known.
In this edition of Sensational Sports Sevens, we examine the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame members who we all should get to know better.
Let’s get to it.
7. Howard Hill: Hill played baseball, basketball and football at Auburn, but his claim to fame came in another sport and his contributions to movies. The Wilsonville native won 196 consecutive field archery tournaments between 1926 and 1942, when he became the world’s greatest archer by winning the International Field Meet. His skills were recognized by filmmakers, who hired him to perform bow-and-arrow stunts in movies such as “The Adventures of Robin Hood”.
6. Leah Atkins: Atkins was the first world champion water skier from Alabama. She dominated the sport from 1951-58. She went on to attend Auburn University and became the first woman inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
