The Heisman Trophy race has been whittled down to four players, and it’ll be SEC vs. Pac-12, as Jayden Daniels, Jalen Milroe, Bo Nix, and Michael Penix are finalists to win the coveted award.

New York is the host city of the 2023 Heisman ceremony, and the winner will be announced at 7 p.m. CT on Dec. 9th.

Heisman Trophy odds: Jayden Daniels (-1200 or better)

Washington players and fans were the only people happier than Daniels about the result of the Pac-12 Championship. Nix was a slight favorite to win the Heisman leading up to the game, and Nix’s odds plummeted when the Huskies defeated the Ducks.

Daniels has the third most passing yards in FBS behind Penix and Nix, and Jayden is tied with Bo for the most passing touchdowns. The Arizona State transfer has far outdone his Heisman competition in rushing, with Daniels tallying 1,134 yards while the other finalists combined for 688 yards.

The only knock against Daniels is LSU’s 9-3 record. Past Heisman winners have at least made the conference championship, but Jayden doesn’t deserve to get dinged because the Tigers’ defense has trouble stopping nosebleeds.

Heisman Trophy odds: Michael Penix (+1000 or better)

Penix was the odd man out of the Heisman race until his 319 yards and one touchdown boosted Washington past Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship. His week-by-week numbers haven’t always been eye-popping in the second half of the season, though leading the Huskies to the No. 2 spot in the College Football Playoffs helped his case greatly.

Washington is 13-0 with marquee wins over USC, Utah, Oregon State, and Oregon. Penix leads the nation with 4,218 passing yards, and his 33 touchdowns are tied for third.

While Penix has surpassed Nix in Heisman odds markets, it seems the best he could’ve done is knock Bo out of the race by beating the Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship.

Oregon was a 10-point favorite vs. Washington but was never close to covering the spread. The Ducks’ only lead lasted less than five minutes of game time, and Oregon trailed by as many as 17 points.

Wins and losses aren’t quarterback stats, but in the eyes of oddsmakers, they seem to be. Nix is only 72 passing yards behind Penix, has seven more passing touchdowns, and six fewer interceptions.

It seems that Bo’s Heisman dreams died at Allegiant Stadium on Friday night, along with Oregon’s Pac-12 Championship and National Championship hopes.

Heisman Trophy odds: Jalen Milroe (+10000 or better)

Milroe’s end-of-the-year heroics won’t be enough to earn him the 2023 Heisman.

Based on statistics, the Texas native doesn’t belong in the group of finalists making the trip to New York City for the trophy presentation. Milroe ranks 41st in yards, 25th in touchdowns, and has eclipsed 300 yards in only one game.

Milroe is having a better rushing season than Penix and Nix but hasn’t gained enough yards to make his Heisman chances a debate. Countless QBs have done more statistically to be a Heisman finalist, and it seems beating Georgia in the SEC Championship earned Milroe enough clout to be in the running.
