Heat index could hit 110 in Alabama on Thursday

More hot and humid August weather is in store for parts of Alabama on Thursday, and heat advisories will be in effect for the western parts of the state.

The National Weather Service said the heat index, or “feels like” temperature, could climb as high as 110 degrees in parts of Alabama today.

Friday could be even hotter in some areas, and the weather service has issued an excessive heat watch for part of southwest Alabama. The heat index could hit 113 in those areas on Friday afternoon.

Rain and storms will be possible both today and Friday across Alabama, but those may not arrive until western parts of the state have a chance to really heat up, according to the National Weather Service.

Air temperatures are expected to hit the mid- to upper 90s in the heat advisory areas this afternoon. Those air temperatures combined with high humidity levels will make it feel much hotter and could raise the risk for heat-related illnesses for those working outside.

High temperatures on Friday will continue to be oppressive in south Alabama, but north and north-central Alabama will catch a break of sorts, with highs “only” expected to stay in the 80s.

Here’s the forecast for Friday:
