Heat index could approach 115 in Alabama on Friday
Will today be the hottest day of Alabama’s June heatwave?
It could for some spots, but the heat is forecast to hang on into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said Friday that plenty of warm and moist air will be available through the weekend for heat indices to be in the triple digits. Severe storms will also be a possibility both today and Saturday.
Parts of west Alabama will be under excessive heat warnings until Saturday night, and a large part of the rest of the state will be under heat advisories.

The heat will hang on into Sunday for Alabama.
The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, could climb as high as 115 in the hottest parts of the state, according to the weather service.
Look for the heat to back off, at least some, by Monday, with more typical summertime temperatures expected next week.
Here’s a look at the heat warnings and advisories for Alabama as of Friday:
NORTH ALABAMA
* Heat advisory until 11 a.m. Friday for Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan and Cullman counties.
* Excessive heat warning from 11 a.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday for Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan and Cullman counties. Heat index values up to 112 will be possible today and Saturday.
* Excessive heat warning in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday for Lauderdale, Colbert and Franklin counties. The heat index could hit 110 on Friday and 111 on Saturday.
* Heat advisory from 11 a.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday for Marshall, Jackson and DeKalb counties. Heat index values up to 106 will be possible.
CENTRAL ALABAMA

Extreme heat is expected in central Alabama through Saturday.
The National Weather Service has made some changes to the excessive heat warning for central Alabama. A few counties have been “downgraded” to a heat advisory, but forecasters pointed out that heat index values will be only slightly lower.
* Excessive heat warning until 9 p.m. Saturday for Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga and Lowndes counties. Heat index values up to 110 will be possible.
* Excessive heat warning until 9 p.m. Saturday for Marion, Lamar, Pickens and Sumter counties. Heat index values up to 115 will be possible.
* Heat advisory for St. Clair, Talladega, Coosa, Elmore and Montgomery counties until 9 p.m. Saturday. Heat index values up to 108 will be possible.
* Heat advisory until 9 p.m. Saturday for Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Clay, Randolph, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties. Heat index values up to 105 will be possible.
SOUTH ALABAMA
* Heat advisory on Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. for Butler, Crenshaw and Covington counties. Heat index values from 108 to 112 will be possible.
* Heat advisory on Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. for Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Escambia, inland and central Mobile and inland and central Baldwin counties. Heat index values from 108 to 112 will be possible.
