Heat builds again: Heat advisories issued in Alabama
Alabama temperatures will continue to be hotter than average at times going into next week, and a heat advisory has been issued for part of the state for today. More heat advisories will be possible on Sunday and into next week as well.
The National Weather Service said the combination of heat and humidity will make it feel especially oppressive in parts of the state today and into next week.
Air temperatures on Saturday are expected to range from the low to mid-90s today. That, combined with higher humidity, will make it feel like the temperature is as high as 108, according to the weather service.
Sunday could be even hotter.
Rain chances are forecast to be higher today and Sunday but could trend lower next week, forecasters said.
A heat advisory will be in effect for part of north Alabama today from noon until 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
The north Alabama counties in the heat advisory are Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall and Cullman.
The weather service said the heat index could reach 108 in those areas this afternoon.
Another heat advisory will be in effect for part of central Alabama today from noon until 9 p.m.
The central Alabama counties in that advisory are Marion, Lamar, Fayetteville, Winston, Walker, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter and Greene.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the heat index could hit 105 in those areas this afternoon.
The weather service thinks that the heat will increase on Sunday in parts of Alabama, and dew points should be even a degree higher than today. So another round of heat advisories for parts of the state will be possible for Sunday — including parts of south Alabama.
Air temperatures are forecast to be in the mid-90s for much of the state. Here’s the forecast for Sunday:
The weather service expects a brief break from the humidity for parts of north and central Alabama on Monday, but it will return again on Tuesday and last through the holiday week.
More heat advisories will be possible next week, including on the Fourth of July holiday.
