Heat advisories for parts of Alabama on Wednesday

Amped-up July heat will persist across parts of Alabama on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. And Thursday could be even a bit hotter.

Forecasters have issued heat advisories for parts of central and south Alabama that will be in effect today.

The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, could climb as high as 110 in some areas this afternoon, according to the weather service.

High temperatures today will range from the low 90s in north Alabama (which could have more clouds and rain) to mid- and upper 90s in central and south Alabama.

Thursday also looks to be even-for-July hot, and more heat advisories could be forthcoming for parts of the state.

Here are the heat advisories that will be in effect today:

CENTRAL ALABAMA

* Heat advisory from 11 a.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Thursday for Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties.

The weather service said heat index values up to 108 are expected both today and Thursday.

SOUTH ALABAMA

* Heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday for Choctaw, Washington, Mobile and Baldwin counties.

The heat index could climb to between 105 and 110 degrees in those areas.

Clouds and the chance for storms could possibly keep north Alabama out of heat advisory territory today, and there are also no advisories for southeast Alabama.

Thursday promises to be another hot day, and it could be a degree or two hotter in some spots in the state.

But hang in there, because some relief is coming. Temperatures are expected to back off to more seasonable levels starting on Saturday — at least for the northern half of the state. (Sorry south Alabama). Here’s the forecast:
