Heat advisories expanded for south Alabama Wednesday
Another hot day is expected across Alabama, and heat advisories have been expanded to cover more of the state.
Highs today are expected to again peak in the mid- to upper 90s, with some triple-digit temperatures also not out of the question.
The combination of heat and humidity will make it feel hotter than the air temperature alone, and areas in south Alabama will be under heat advisories through this evening.
The first heat advisory covers southwest Alabama and will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday and has been expanded to include more counties. The counties now in the advisory are Choctaw, Washington, Escambia, Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh and Covington.
The National Weather Service in Mobile said heat index values around 108 are expected in those areas.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Fla., has also issued a heat advisory that includes the southeast corner of Alabama.
That heat advisory will be in effect until 6 p.m. CDT for Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties.
The weather service said the heat index could reach up to 110 in those counties.
Rain chances are expected to go up today, and there could be a few strong storms in the mix, mainly for those in west Alabama.
Temperatures are expected to be a few degrees lower on Thursday.
