A head-on crash in western Jefferson County left a man dead and a woman in critical condition.

The wrecked happened at 10:45 p.m. Saturday in the 3400 block of 15th Street Road.

Jefferson County sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said it appears one of the vehicles crossed over the center line, striking the other head on.

Two people were taken to the hospital from the scene, Money said.

One of those, a 29-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the hospital. A 51-year-old woman remains in critical condition.

A third man was in one of the vehicles, but he was not hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene and is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
