Having trouble with your new trash cart in Birmingham? Here’s what the city says you should do
As thousands of Birmingham residents receive their new 96-gallon trash carts, representatives for the city have instructed those struggling with the carts to dial 311 for assistance.
Anyone who can’t transport their cart due to physical difficulties is eligible for a set out service offered by Birmingham’s Department of Public Works according to Rick Journey, director of communications for the city of Birmingham.
The city has nearly reached a halfway point in their delivery of 100,000 new smart chipped trash carts to homes throughout the city and several residents have taken to social media with confusion and concerns as the Lede previously reported.
Some residents who have received new carts have also received post cards from the city informing them about how the pickup service has been modified. The postcards are in addition to a letter sent by the city and a note dropped inside the trash can when delivered.
But members of social media site Nextdoor and Facebook group I Believe in Birmingham say they haven’t yet received the post card with instructions or the letter with their new pickup day.
