Have a look at progress on Jefferson County’s $1.1 billion Smucker’s plant
The largest capital investment by a company in the history of Jefferson County is making progress.
Jefferson County shared a tweet to show how construction is proceeding on the new $1.1 billion Smucker’s plant in the McCalla area.
Last November, Smucker’s announced plans for the facility that will make “Uncrustables,” the brand’s frozen sandwich treats.
The project is expected to bring 750 jobs, paying an average of $25 an hour. Smucker’s is best known for its jellies and jams and Uncrustables, which come in several flavors including peanut butter and grape jelly.
The 225-acre property is expected to open by 2025.
It will be part of the Jefferson Metropolitan Park at McCalla, a 739-acre industrial park along U.S. 11 about a mile from Interstate 20/59 and two miles from I-459.
The plant will be one of three around the U.S. dedicated to the Uncrustables brand – along with Scottsville, Ky. and Longmont, Colo.
