Harris vs. Trump latest poll: New numbers show candidate’s lead holding
A new poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris’ is holding onto her lead over former President Donald Trump in the 2024 race for the White House.
The poll, conducted Aug. 9-11 by Morning Consult, shows Harris continuing to lead Trump- 47% to 44%. That margin, however, is down 1 percentage point from her highest lead of 4 points posted last week. Current numbers are similar to the national polling average as tracked by FiveThirtyEight.com which shows Harris at 46.1% and Trump at 43.4%.
Harris has not trailed Trump in a single daily tracking survey since Morning Consult began comparing the two after President Joe Biden exited the race in late July.

Both candidates remain popular with their respective parties with 90% of Democrats backing Harris, the same as the percentage of Republicans who said they support Trump. Harris gets her highest level of support – 48% – among voters aged 18-34 compared to 41% who said they are backing Trump and Black voters, who support Harris by an overwhelming 73% compared to 18% for Trump.
Forty-nine percent of those polled said they had a favorable opinion of Harris compared to 47% who had an unfavorable view, for a net of plus 2 percentage points. Trump’s approval rating, however, is underwater with 44% saying they approved of Trump compared to 54% who disapproved, for a net of negative 10 percentage points.
Overall, the share of voters who said the following issues were “very important” in deciding their vote was led by the economy (78%) followed by national security at 70%, jobs, healthcare, taxes and Social Security and Medicare, all at 68%.
The Morning Consult poll included a sample of 11,778 registered U.S. voters with a margin of error of plus/minus 1 percentage point.
