Hannah Brown ‘humbled’ to dance for Len Goodman: His approval gave ‘sense of pride’

Hannah Brown paid her respects to Len Goodman with a touching tribute to the longtime “Dancing with the Stars” judge in her Instagram stories.

Goodman, the longtime judge on “Dancing with the Stars,” died this week at the age of 78. Agent Jackie Gill said Goodman “passed away peacefully.” He had been diagnosed with bone cancer. Goodman was head judge on the ABC show for 15 years until his retirement in November.

Brown, 28, competed on the 28th season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” paired with professional dancer Alan Bersten, with whom she won the competition. Goodman offered the Alabama native praise throughout the season. He said of her paso doble, “It had aggression, but with control. Well done.” After a Disney-themed foxtrot, he called Brown “a lovely dancer.” After a quick-step and salsa, he called her “fabulous.”

Upon hearing the news of Goodman’s passing, she took to Instagram.

The text on her IG story said, “Celebrating the legacy that Len leaves behind for all who have been a part of @dancingwiththestars. From the living room to the ballroom, Len’s approval gave everyone a sense of pride and accomplishment. How cool that a man could make people feel that way.”

In the accompanying video, Brown said she was thinking about Goodman’s families, both personal and television. “I mean, he’s just an integral part of so many people’s lives and a part of that show, people that watched it at home, people that got to experience it firsthand,” she said. “And today I just feel so humbled that I had the experience, not only to be in the same room as home but to be able to dance for him.

“To receive a 10 from Len was, like, winning. It was that mark of respect, and I think that just shows the legacy that he’s leaving behind by how people felt around him, that level of respect that he commanded when he was in your presence and just the way that he would make you feel when he acknowledged your improvement, acknowledged the growth. I think that’s really special and something that I am celebrating today as I think on Len Goodman.”

Brown, 28, led the 15th season of “The Bachelorette” and then competed with Bersten on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” winning the Mirrorball Trophy. The former Miss Alabama USA graduated from the University of Alabama in 2017 and previously worked as an interior decorator in Northport. She recently moved to Nashville.

Brown has appeared on several reality shows since her debut on “The Bachelor,” including “Celebrity Dating Game,” “Lights Out with David Spade” and most recently Fox’s “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” a quasi-military training show she won along with former professional soccer star Carli Lloyd.
