Halloween night stabbing in south Alabama leaves man dead, another wanted for murder
A Halloween night stabbing in southern Alabama left one man dead and another sought for murder.
Ozark police were dispatched at 10:15 p.m. Thursday to a report of a stabbing in the 100 block of Frank Marshall Road.
Officers arrived to find 43-year-old Eric Lamont Eutsey lying in the road. He had been stabbed multiple times, police said.
Eutsey was rushed to Dale Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police and Dale County Sheriff’s Office investigators worked throughout the night to process the crime scene and interview witnesses.
The probe included obtaining search warrants for a nearby home and vehicle.
Witness statements and evidence led them to charge 58-year-old Marcus Lee Slater with murder.
Investigators have not yet determined a motive.
Police in a Friday news release said witnesses saw Slater running toward Faust Avenue after the attack. In response, law enforcement officers deployed tracking dogs and a helicopter to search for the suspect, but to no avail.
“We are committed to bringing justice to the victim and his family, and we will continue to pursue all leads in this investigation,’’ police said in the news release. “We ask the community to remain vigilant and assist us in locating Mr. Slater.”
Anyone with information is asked call 911 or Ozark police.
