Guns N’ Roses alumnus to join legendary shock rocker; Alabama date ahead
Looks like school is not out for a certain Guns N’ Roses veteran, who’ll be subbing in for a classic shock-rocker as he visits Alabama early next month.
Alice Cooper is slated to return to the Mobile Saenger Theatre Feb. 4, for a performance that is well on its way to sold out. It’s a stop on Cooper’s “Too Close for Comfort” tour.
A PR firm representing Cooper announced Monday that a temporary lineup change will bring former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke into Cooper’s band for a run of shows from Jan. 31 through Feb. 16. According to the announcement, Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss had conflicting obligations and Oranthi – Strauss’ predecessor in the Cooper guitar gig – was scheduled to fill in. But when Oranthi had to bow out due to “unforeseen circumstances,” Clarke got the call.

He’ll be on board from Augusta, Ga., on Jan. 18 through a Rock Legends cruise that departs Miami on Feb. 13.
Back in 1991, Clarke was hired to fill the Guns N’ Roses rhythm guitar spot vacated by Izzy Stradlin. During his three years touring with the band he was featured on a live album and the punk covers collection “The Spaghetti Incident?” He went on to play on lead guitarist Slash’s first album outside the group; amid various other projects, he has released several solo albums including 2021’s “The Gospel Truth.”
According to Monday’s announcement, Strauss will rejoin Cooper soon, with additional 2025 dates yet to be announced.
