Gunman who fatally shot himself in Mobile Government Plaza standoff identified

Mobile police identified Tuesday the gunman who shot and killed himself following a 5-1/2 hour standoff inside a gray car parked outside Mobile’s Government Plaza on Monday.

Terrance Duncan, 46, was the person who died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound sometime around 3:30 p.m.

Police have not provided additional information including a motive as to why Duncan was involved in the standoff. He was not scheduled for a court appearance at Government Plaza on Monday, according to Lawrence Battiste, the executive director of public safety for the City of Mobile.

The standoff was televised live by local stations on Monday. It ended shortly after Duncan allegedly shot his gun at the backseat window sometime around 2:30 p.m.

Shortly after that, an armored SWAT team vehicle approached Duncan’s parked vehicle and fired tear gas into it. Duncan then left the vehicle and shot himself in the head.
