Gunfire erupted in a west Birmingham neighborhood Monday afternoon, leaving one man dead.

Birmingham police started receiving calls about 4 p.m. of gunfire in Pratt City.

Once on the scene, they found the victim dead in the woods line behind a home.

The shooting happened in the 500 block of Closhire Lane.

No arrests have been announced.

The victim is the city’s 123rd homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and eight more have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 172 homicides, including the 123 in Birmingham.
