A Gulf Shores man has been charged with raping a woman in Orange Beach earlier this month, the Orange Beach Police Department announced Monday.

Police received a report of a sexual assault from an adult female on Jan. 17. The incident was reported in the 24000 block of Gulf Bay Road in Orange Beach.

Information from the victim and with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, 31-year-old Christopher Russihi Strachan became the primary suspect.

Strachan was taken into custody last Friday and charged with 1st-degree rape. He is being held in the Baldwin County Jail without bond pending an initial court hearing.

The jail docket also indicates there is an immigration hold on Strachan, who is believed to be from Jamaica, although further information on Strachan’s immigration status was not immediately available.
