Grissom High cross country team member seriously injured in Huntsville hit-and run has a ‘long road’ ahead
A Grissom High School cross-country team member who was struck by a vehicle early Wednesday while running with the team is recovery, his mother announced.
Grissom freshman Chandler Drouin was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Weatherly Road and Cannstatt Drive while the team was out training.
According to Alabama Runners, Drouin is awaiting surgery for multiple broken bones, which include broken tibia, fibula, ribs, clavicle, and orbital.
Drouin’s mother Nicole provided an update on social media, calling her son a “tough kid.”
“He (and God) keep showing us all how mighty they are together,” she wrote.
“He is still sedated, healing from surgery but getting stronger each day! He has a wonderful team on nurses and doctors that are pouring into him. We can possibly keep up with all the comments this week but please know we have read them and we feel your prayers being answered!!! It will be a long road but there has never been a doubt in my mind that he won’t show us his strength and courage!!!”
According to police, the suspect vehicle fled the scene, but witnesses provided a detailed description that led officers to locating the vehicle and driver.
Jarod Monroe Severance, 21, was arrested and charged with second degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
