Greg Byrne states Alabama’s CFP case: ‘Strength of schedule matters’

Not long after Clemson held of an SMU rally to claim a 34-31 win in the ACC Championship Game to claim a College Football Playoff bid, Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne posted the case for his Crimson Tide to be included in the CFP.

“Strength of schedule matters,” Byrne posted on X on Saturday night. “Not all schedules and conferences are created equal. Six of our eight wins are against bowl-eligible teams and have come against some of the top teams in the SEC, including SEC champion Georgia.”

Social media was on fire Saturday night over whether Alabama or SMU should get into the CFP after Nolan Hauser kicked 56-yard field goal as time expired and the No. 18 Clemson knocked off No. 8 SMU.

Sports books have also posted updated odds for both teams.

The Allstate playoff predictor Friday gave Alabama a 99.7 percent chance to make the CFP with an SMU win. The Tide had a 72 percent chance with a Clemson win. However, the Mustangs rallied in impressive fashion Saturday night only to lose by three points, leaving many believing it was a worst-case scenario for Kalen DeBoer club.
