Greenspace projects on the way for Railroad Park, Graysville
The Jefferson County Commission has joined several local nonprofits and city leaders in a mission to support and revitalize green spaces in the area.
In their most recent meeting on Mar. 23 the commission dedicated $20,000 to the Greenspace Native Plant Project at Birmingham’s Railroad Park.
This project aims to “maintain, replace, and enhance more than 1,000 plants and trees at the park to reduce erosion and absorb clean stormwater as well as support more than 100 species of birds seen at Railroad Park” according to Camille Spratling, Railroad Park executive director.
“The Native Plant Project will enhance Railroad Park’s ability to offer a welcoming greenspace to thousands of weekly visitors for health & wellness, relaxation and family & community celebrations,” said Spratling.
The commission was also able to wrap up contracts with the City of Graysville for over $150,000 in improvements for the city’s east and southeast parks which were completed earlier this year.
