Grant Nelson injury update: Latest on Alabama forward after loss to Florida
Grant Nelson sustained a knee injury against Florida, Alabama coach Nate Oats said postgame.
Oats said they’re not sure exactly what it is yet, but UA doesn’t think it’s an ACL injury “or anything like that.”
“Hopefully we get him back for the first round of the NCAA Tournament,” Oats said.
Nelson left late in the first half with a left leg injury in the 104-82 loss to Florida on Saturday in the SEC Tournament semifinals. He returned to the bench in the second half but didn’t play again.
Nelson got evaluated by the team doctor at halftime.
“Let us know at the beginning of the second half he wasn’t going to be able to go,” Oats said.
Nelson was dominant in the first half when he was playing. He scored nine points, including a triple, grabbed three rebounds, tallied one assist, one block and one steal over 10 minutes of play.
Alabama trailed by only two points at halftime with Nelson playing most of it. Then Florida took over in the second half without Nelson on the floor.
“We were right in the game until he went out,” Oats said. “I thought with the guys we had in the second half, we still should have been able to stay in the game, make a run at trying to get the win without him. Obviously a lot tougher without him, especially with the way he was playing to start the game out.”
Next up, Alabama will learn its March Madness fate on Sunday. The Crimson Tide is expected to be a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
