Grammy winning rapper and producer set to perform at UAB
Grammy Award-winning rapper and producer Lil’ Jon will be in Birmingham on Saturday for UAB’s 2024 Welcome Back Concert.
The event will take place at Bartow Arena on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m.
Ticket sales are not open to the general public. However, tickets are free for all students, who can reserve an additional ticket for free and also purchase a guest ticket for $15. Students who reserve tickets must present a valid ONE Card at the box office. Faculty and staff members who wish to attend may purchase up to two tickets for $25 each. Seating inside Bartow Arena is general admission.
Previously UAB has welcomed a variety of artists that include T-Pain in 2023, Weezer for the University’s 50th anniversary in 2019 and H.E.R for the 2018 Spring Concert.
Lil’ Jon recently made headlines for his performance during the roll call at the Democratic National Convention, where some spectators said the Grammy-winning producer turned the event into a party. He also made a several appearances in ads leading up to the 2024 Super Bowl and performed alongside Usher during the halftime show.
Lil’ Jon first became widely known in the late ’90s and early 2000s with his rap group, The East Side Boyz, who are credited for the crunk era of Hip-Hop with records like, “Get Low,” “What U Gon’ Do” and “Bia’ Bia”. The hit rapper/producer is best known for records such as “Snap Yo Fingers,” “Turn Down for What” and Usher’s “Yeah!”. He’s made a impact on pop culture with words like “What,” “Yeah” and “OK” being synonymous with the artist. He’s worked with artists across all genres of music, including Miley Cyrus, Trick Daddy, Britney Spears, Bret Michaels, Pitbull, Travis Barker, Jennifer Lopez, Machine Gun Kelly and more.
