GoFundMe launched for beloved athlete killed in shooting at sister’s Dadeville birthday party

The mother of a beloved Dadeville High School athlete killed in a weekend mass shooting is raising money following his unexpected death.

Latonya Allen, the mother of 18-year-old Philstavious “Phil” Dowdell, launched a GoFundMe for “love offerings.”

“These offers will help serve the family’s unexpected expenses in the upcoming weeks as we prepare to lay our son to rest,’’ Allen wrote.

Dowdell was one of four people killed Saturday when gunfire erupted at his younger sister’s Sweet 16 birthday party at the private event venue Mahogany’s Masterpiece. Additionally, 32 people were injured.

Also killed were Corbin Dahmontrey Holston, 23, Shaunkivia Nicole “Keke” Smith, 17 and Marsiah Emmanuel “Siah” Collins, 19.

Dowdell was a senior at Dadeville High School who had committed to play college football at Jacksonville State.

“As good a football, basketball and track athlete as he was, he was just as good a person,’’ said Coach Roger McDonald. “He always worked hard, was humble .. all the time. He hung on every word the coaches gave him. Whatever you told him, he trusted it and did everything you asked him to do.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Philstavious Dowdell and the other victims of the senseless tragedy last night,” Jacksonville State head coach Rich Rodriguez said on a message on social media. “He was a great young man with a bright future. My staff and I are heartbroken and hope that everyone will support his family through this difficult time.”
