Gladys Knight: Two new spring shows in Alabama announced
Legendary vocalist Gladys Knight will perform two newly announced Alabama shows this spring.
According to information released Monday by Birmingham-based Red Mountain Entertainment, Knight will appear at the Mobile Saenger Theatre on April 22, a Saturday. General ticket sales begin at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, through Ticketmaster. Ticket prices start at $51.25.
The singer will then perform Sunday, April 23, in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. General sales also start at 10 a.m. Friday for that show.
Knight, 78, known as the “Empress of Soul,” has won seven Grammy Awards on more than 20 nominations. The latter stretch from a nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” with The Pips at the 10th Grammy Awards in 1968 to a win for Best Gospel Album by Choir or Chorus for “One Voice” at the 48th Grammy Awards in 2006.
Knight released her most recent albums, the R&B set “Another Journey” and the gospel project “Where My Heart Belongs,” in 2013 and 2014. Her activities in recent years have included TV appearances, including a run as “Bee” on “The Masked Singer” in 2019. She received a lifetime artistic achievement award from the Kennedy Center in 2022.
Knight also has an upcoming show on March 4 at Wind Creek Wetumpka. According to Ticketmaster, that show is sold out.
