Georgia’s Brock Bowers leaves game vs. Vanderbilt with ankle injury

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers left Saturday’s game vs. Vanderbilt in the second quarter due to a left ankle injury.

Bowers was injured after carrying the ball for 14 yards on an end around, a play that was called back due to a penalty. He limped away from the play and then sank to one knee, pounding the turf in frustration before being attended to by Bulldogs trainers.

Bowers later limped to the medical tent before being led to the locker room. The top-ranked Bulldogs led 24-7 at halftime.

“He’s got a little bit of an ankle sprain on the bottom part of his foot, but he thinks he’ll be fine,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart told SEC on CBS sideline reporter Tiffany Blackmon at halftime. “We’re gonna go X-ray it and check it out.”

Early in the second half, Blackmon reported that Bowers was officially listed as “out” with a left ankle injury. No other details were provided.

A two-time first-team All-SEC pick and a first-team All-American in 2022, Bowers caught four passes for 22 yards and carried the ball twice for 11 yards Saturday prior to his injury. He came into the game with 37 receptions for 545 yards and four touchdowns.
