A Georgia woman has been identified as a pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle in in eastern Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jeanine Uwitonze. She was 42 and lived in Clarkston.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of Brewster Road.

Sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said Uwitonze was crossing the road when she was hit. She was taken to UAB Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 6:14 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigators from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.
