Georgia woman dead, Alabama woman airlifted to hospital after ATV overturns in Randolph County

A Georgia woman died and an Alabama woman was airlifted to a hospital after the ATV they were passengers in overturned in north Alabama, authorities said Wednesday.

Both women were not wearing seat belts and were partially ejected from the Honda Pioneer 1000 ATV during the incident just after midnight Sunday in Randolph County, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Vu Quang.

Emily S. Long, 51, of Canton, Georgia, was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where she died of her injuries Tuesday, Quang said.

The second victim, a 49-year-old Wedowee resident, was airlifted to WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, Georgia. The extent of her injuries were not disclosed.

The ATV overturned around 12:10 a.m. Sunday on Randolph County Road 256 near Randolph County Road 2564, about eight miles north of Wedowee.

Further information on the incident was unavailable as state troopers continued to investigate.
