Before No. 1 Georgia can play for the SEC title, it has a shot at winning the unofficial state title when the Bulldogs travel to Atlanta to face longtime rival Georgia Tech Saturday night.
11-0 Georgia has won five in a row over the Yellow Jackets by an average of 33 points, but Tech has shown some life under new coach Brent Key who has them bowl-eligible for the first time since 2018.
College Football Week 13: Georgia vs. Georgia Tech odds preview
Georgia is the two-time defending CFP champion and has won 28 straight games. The Bulldogs have already clinched the SEC East division title and will meet Alabama in Atlanta next week.
The Bulldogs offense ranks No. 5 in the nation in scoring, just over 40 points a game. Quarterback Carson Beck has thrown for 3,320 yards, seventh-highest in the nation, and 21 touchdowns. Tight end Brock Bowers is Georgia’s main man on offense. Bowers missed two games with an ankle injury, but still leads the Bulldogs in receptions. He’s too big to guard with a DB and too fast to cover with a linebacker.
Georgia Tech has had an up-and-down season that included a loss to MAC power Bowling Green, but also a win over ranked Miami and North Carolina. They are playing well and have won three of their last four.
Tech transfer quarterback Haynes King has run for 624 yards and seven scores and he leads the ACC with 26 touchdown passes since coming over from Texas A&M. King has also thrown 15 interceptions, tied for the most in FBS.
Georgia Tech is 6-5 but has had trouble on defense, allowing 222.4 yards a game on the ground. The Tech defense ranks 119th in the nation in total defense.
The Bulldogs are 5-6 against the spread, while Tech is 6-5. This one is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPN.
Georgia vs. Georgia Tech best bet: Georgia -24 (-110 at DraftKings)
It will be a huge Saturday of college football, and the Bulldogs will want to make their mark in this primetime contest. Georgia is the two-time national champ but has been overshadowed a little this season by the Big 10 chatter, Florida State’s rise, and Texas being ‘back’… for a few weeks.
You look at this game and you realize that while Georgia Tech has certainly improved, they still don’t have the same end-to-end talent that the Bulldogs have. Georgia has a big, imposing offensive line and they’ll be able to run the ball at will. Defensively, King is a great athlete, but Georgia can match him and cut him off from making big plays. Georgia should romp.
Georgia vs Georgia Tech best bet: Georgia over 21.5 first-half points (-120 at DraftKings)
The thinking here is the same as above. Georgia Tech won’t stop Georgia on offense, but even more so the pressure will be on the Bulldogs to score a lot early because they’d love to get some players on the sidelines for the second half – especially Bowers – to rest them for the Bama game.
The other reason we like this bet is because Georgia Tech could score early and provoke the Bulldogs into answering back. Tech does average 31.9 points a game, but this will be the best defense they see this year. Each of the last seven Georgia Tech home games has hit the over, so a lot of points early and often wouldn’t be a surprise.
