Georgia quarterback Jaden Rashada to enter transfer portal again, report says
The Jaden Rashada saga continues, with news from ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Sunday that the former four-star quarterback prospect from the 2023 recruiting class is heading back into the transfer portal.
Rashada spent this past season at Georgia, where he did not play in a game as a redshirt freshman. He previously played at Arizona State in 2023, after originally signing with Florida out of high school.
Originally from Pittsburg, Calif., Rashada committed to Miami during the summer prior to his senior year of high school before flipping to Florida in November 2022. It was reported at the time that Rashada had agreed to a 13.85 million NIL deal with the Gator Collective.
The NIL reportedly fell through, however, and Rashada was released from his Letter of Intent with the Gators (the NCAA also began to investigate the situation). He landed at Arizona State, where he completed 44 of 82 passes for 485 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions in three games as a true freshman while dealing with a knee injury (because he played in only three games, he was able to take a redshirt year and has four seasons of eligibility remaining).
Rashada sat out the spring of 2024 while recovering from offseason thumb surgery, and signed with Georgia in May. Shortly after arriving in Athens, he sued Florida coach Billy Napier, a booster and a former football staffer, alleging that Napier promised him a $1 million payment upon signing his National Letter of Intent with Florida in December 2022, but boosters never delivered on the agreement (the case has yet to go to court).
The transfer portal closed for most players on Dec. 28, but remains open for an additional five days for players after the season ended for teams who played in late December/January bowl games. Georgia lost to Notre Dame in Sugar Bowl on Thursday.
