Georgia picked to win SEC; where are Alabama, Auburn?

For the first time in eight years and just the second time since 2010, someone other than Alabama is the media’s pick to win the SEC championship in 2023.

Georgia is the media’s pick for the conference title this season, collecting 181 of a possible 291 votes in balloting at SEC Media Days this week in Nashville. Alabama had been picked to win the SEC championship every year since 2015.

Ten different teams teams got votes to win the SEC championship. Alabama was second with 62 votes, followed by LSU with 31, then Tennessee and Vanderbilt (5 each), Arkansas and Auburn (2 each) and Texas A&M, South Carolina and Mississippi State (1 each).

Georgia was also the easy pick in the SEC East collecting 265 of 291 first-place votes and 2011 total points. Tennessee (14 first-place votes, 1682 points) was second, followed by South Carolina (3, 1254), Kentucky (1, 1204), Florida (911), Missouri (658) and Vanderbilt (8, 428).

Alabama was the favorite in the West with 165 first-place votes and 1899 total points, though LSU (117, 1838) has closed the gap somewhat. Texas A&M (1, 1144) was third, followed by Ole Miss (1128), Arkansas (3, 958), Auburn (4, 685) and Mississippi State (1, 496).
