A Georgia man was killed when he was struck by a Freightliner tractor-trailer in Cleburne County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Gutierrez J. Enain. He was 28 and lived in Smyrna.

The wreck happened at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday on I-20 about four miles west of Heflin, said Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal.

Authorities said Enain was a passenger involved in a previous crash. He exited the wrecked vehicle and “subsequently laid down in the roadway.”

It was then, O’Neal said, Enain was struck by the 2023 Freightliner driven by Jonathan Kelley, 32, of Hoover.

Enain was pronounced dead on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
