In the latest from the “grandstanding legislation that has no chance of causing any change” files, a Georgia state senator is demanding that the Orange Bowl (and thus the Georgia Bulldogs) be included in the College Football Playoff.

Colton Moore, who represents District 53 in extreme northwest Georgia, wrote a letter Thursday to CFP executive director Boo Corrigan decrying the fact that the Bulldogs were left out of the playoff. He implored Corrigan to reverse the playoff committee’s “grave error” and its “injustice” done against the university, its fans and the people of Georgia.

No. 6 Georgia faces No. 5 Florida State in the Dec. 30 Orange Bowl, in what amounts to a consolation game. No. 1 Michigan plays No. 4 Alabama in the Rose Bowl, while No. 2 Washington meets No. 3 Texas in the Sugar Bowl, with the two winners advancing to the College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 8 in Houston.

Moore argued that despite its 27-24 loss to Alabama in the SEC championship game, Georgia is still one of the four best teams in the country and thus should be included in the playoff.

“Your mandate is to send the four best teams in the country to the Playoff, and instead you have created a political mess with a decision based in bias to weaker conferences and teams who want nothing to do playing the Georgia Bulldogs,” Moore wrote in part.

“This grave error is one Georgia may have to live with for generations to come. You have proven that the historical body of work by UGA staff and future Hall of Fame coaches count for nothing, even amidst the near smallest margin of possible after 29 straight wins in arguably the most exhilarating SEC Championship game in history.

“At some point in the future, it may be reasonable to have this Committee replaced by Artificial Intelligence because the current intelligence has caused an undue embarrassment to college football, an injustice upon the State of Georgia, and the University System of Georgia.”

Moore joins several lawmakers in Florida who have made similar demands of the committee to reverse its decision and include the unbeaten Seminoles in the College Football Playoff. CFP officials have yet to respond (not that anyone expected them to do so).
