Gastropub at Birmingham’s Pepper Place closing, to relocate
A gastropub in Birmingham’s Pepper Place is closing after seven years.
But its owners say they intend to reopen elsewhere.
The Lumbar, located at 212 29th St. S., has announced on its website that its last day open will be Sunday, April 27.
The new location is to be decided.
“You wanna know what we’ve heard? We’re you’re home. We’re you’re safe space. We’re you’re family,” an announcement on the website states. “You know what that means? We have to keep going. We have to keep fighting for our safe space, for our found family, and for our community. We will find a second home and, with your help, we will make it our own. We love you. Thank you for 7 years and we can’t wait for 70 more.”
The brainchild of Rylie Hightower, the chief executive officer of RHK Holdings and a biomedical neuroscience PhD student at UAB, The Lumbar opened in 2018 as a scientifically themed bar concept, with a menu including cheeseburger sliders, a Cuban sandwich, Frito pie, grilled pimento cheese and loaded tater tots.
