Garbage piles up at one apartment complex, while city of Mobile cleans another

The city of Mobile has cleaned the trash up at Barrington Park Apartments in midtown, after it sued the complex owner. But now, residents at another complex—owned by the same company— say trash is still a big issue there.

“We don’t want to live this way, we don’t want our apartment to be full of mice and roaches,” Jessica Harris says. “We pay rent and we’re treated poorly.”

Harris lives at Manchester Park Apartments on Springhill Avenue. A giant pile of trash lays where the complex’s dumpster is supposed to be. There was a dumpster on site that was overflowing, but eventually it was removed, she said, adding that tenants are still being charged a fee for trash pickup.

It’s been that way for a few months, since the complex got a new property manager, she says. The manager and the maintenance workers have been trying to find a solution, but there’s nothing they can do. The issue lies with ownership, she says.

Trash piled up last fall as well, Harris says, and it resulted in mice, roaches and other vermin infesting the apartment complex.
