Thousands of local AmWaste customers with Wednesday/Saturday garbage pickups will receive a new pickup schedule by the end of this month, according to Hoover City Administrator Ken Grimes.

Although AmWaste service has been a topic of ongoing public complaint in the region since last year, Grimes said several Birmingham suburbs had been working to eliminate weekend pickups long before that.
