Fyffe star attracts attention from top football programs

One might think that a two-time Alabama Sports Writers Association first-team performer as a junior who set a record for the state championship game with 256 yards rushing – while scoring four touchdowns – and averaged 10.8 yards per carry for the season and measures 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds would have college scouts banging down his door.

Until a couple months ago, that was not the case for Fyffe’s Logan Anderson. The hard-charging tailback set a record for the Red Devils by running for 2,864 yards last season as Fyffe won its second straight championship – and seventh in the past 11 years, five in Class 2A and two in 3A. As a sophomore, Anderson ran for more than 1,800 yards before suffering a knee injury in the state playoff semifinals.

Still, Anderson apparently wasn’t high on the recruiting radar until May 31 when he got an offer from a coach known to be pretty good at spotting talent, Kirby Smart at Georgia. Two days later, Auburn decided they really think he belongs in Lee County. On June 4, another national championship coach invited him to come on over to Clemson.

“They finally found him,” said Fyffe coach Paul Benefield. “It’s hard, sometimes, to get them to take notice. When they laid eyes on him and watched him work out, they knew what he could do. He got some interest. A lot of interest, actually.”

According to 247sports, Anderson is a three-star athlete. ESPN has him tabbed as a three-star outside linebacker, On3 says he’s a three-star linebacker and Rivals lists him as a four-star inside linebacker. He is a two-way player for Fyffe, although he spends most of his time at running back.
