Funeral arrangements announced for Briarwood pastor Harry Reeder
Funeral arrangements have been announced for the pastor of the 4,000-member-plus Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
A service of celebration for the life and ministry of Dr. Harry L. Reeder III will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian, address 2200 Briarwood Way, 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, with a reception and receiving to follow in the fellowship hall.
Reeder, 75, died Thursday morning in a car crash in Shelby County.
The driver of a 2022 International dump truck was stopped to make a turn when Reeder’s 2022 Buick Envision crashed into the rear of the truck. Reeder was pronounced dead on the scene. The dump truck driver was not injured.
Per the church’s website, briarwood.org, in lieu of flowers the Reeder family requests that gifts be made to the Harry Reeder Scholarship Fund at Birmingham Theological Seminary or the Harry Reeder Memorial Fund at the National Christian Foundation or Westminster Theological Seminary.
The service honoring Reeder will be live-streamed at briarwood.org/livestream.
According to the late pastor’s Facebook page, Reeder had let Briarwood Presbyterian since September 1999.

He and his wife Cindy are Charlotte natives and have three children.
As an author, Reeder published books including “From Embers to a Flame – How God Can Revitalize Your Church.”
After Reeder’s death, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Albert Mohler tweeted, “Harry was a stalwart for the faith and a genuinely gracious man. I pray for his wife and family and for the church he so dearly loved and led.”
