Friday crash that killed pedestrian on Bessemer Super Highway was a hit-and-run; witnesses sought
The fatal crash that killed a pedestrian Friday night in western Jefferson County was a hit-and-run, authorities said Saturday.
Sheriff’s deputies responded shortly before 8:30 p.m. to the wreck on Bessemer Super Highway near Sugar Ray Drive.
Once there, they learned the victim had been struck by multiple vehicles and was pronounced dead on the scene.
He has not yet been identified, but Lt. Joni Money said he was an adult Black male.
Money said the victim was initially struck by a vehicle that did not stop. After the initial crash, the victim was hit by more vehicles.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting the investigation.
