Free clinic coming to Montgomery: No insurance needed for dental, vision, medical exams
A free health clinic will roll into Montgomery this weekend to help address the capital city’s limited access to care.
Remote Area Medical, a non-profit, will set up a mobile clinic at the Cramton Bowl parking lot on Hall Street on Saturday and Sunday. It will offer free dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental X-rays, eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses made on-site, and general medical exams.
“In many parts of the United States, for millions of Americans, access to basic healthcare is a challenge at best and an impossibility at worst. Due to geographic, economic, or cultural barriers, much of the U.S. population is uninsured or underinsured,” Remote Area Medical said in a press release.
“By bringing healthcare directly to those in need, RAM removes the barriers of cost and distance that often prevent people from seeking care.”
The clinic, which is being run in collaboration with the City of Montgomery and the Alabama Boys Gospel singing group, will not require insurance or identification. Other available services include rapid HIV and syphilis testing and education about sexually transmitted diseases.
Clinic doors open at 6 a.m. on Saturday and services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Closing time will depend on capacity, but Sunday “will be an abbreviated day” according to the clinic, meaning patients should arrive as early as possible and should be prepared to choose between dental and vision services.
All patients will, however, be offered general medical care.
In the event of inclement weather, volunteer cancellations or other circumstances, the clinic may open earlier, or a smaller-than-anticipated number of patients may be served, according to the press release.
“RAM encourages anyone who could benefit from these services to attend and receive the care they deserve,” the release said.
